Manchester & County Bank Ltd

Manchester Rd, Denton, on the Market St corner
The Manchester & County Bank Ltd was incorporated in July 1862 and trade directories show that a branch of this bank was open on Ashton Rd, Denton, by 1873. This was essentially a sub-branch of Ashton-under-Lyne and at this time the manager was Thomas Lister Charlesworth. By 1882 the bank had moved to premises on Manchester Rd and the manager and sub-manager were William S Burton and R E Coates, respectively. In 1911 the manager was Robert Royse.

The bank traded under the name of Manchester & County Bank Ltd until November 1934 when a meeting was held for a formal change of name to County Bank Ltd. In August 1935 the new County Bank Ltd announced it was to amalgamate with the District Bank Ltd. In 1962 the District Bank Ltd was acquired by the National Provincial Bank Ltd, which became part of the National Westminster Bank Ltd in 1970. In 2000 the National Westminster Bank plc (NatWest Bank) became part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

This branch of NatWest closed on the 15 Jun 2017 and it was one of 56 north regional branch closures around this time.
