Charles Hugh Collins, grocer, 6 Stockport Rd,
early 20th century

This shop was located in Victoria Buildings on the corner of Stockport Rd and Victoria St near Crown Point. In 1901 Charles Hugh Collins (1854-1923) was resident next door, to the left on Victoria St, with his wife, Elizabeth Ann née Cooke, son, Charles Frederick, and assistant, Jane Lovett.

Next door, to the right off the picture, on Stockport Rd the chemist shop was occupied by Henry Collins (1854-1932). In 1901 the widowed Henry Collins was resident at his main chemist shop on Ashton Rd with his daughter, Marion Verna and assistant, Martha Ann Lees.

James Coombes & Co, 4 Victoria St,

This boot-repairing shop was located in Victoria Buildings and by 1906 it was managed by Thomas Fox who is seen here with his wife and three children.

By 1911 this shop was managed by Harry Johnson and his wife, Alice, both of whom came from Leicester.

Bratt & Hobson Ltd, grocers, 12 & 14 Victoria St,
early 20th century

This shop was located in Victoria Buildings on the corner of Victoria St and Market St near Crown Point.

This company was formerly Bratt and Hobson (aka Hobson and Co) and over the years it expanded to become a chain of shops in the Manchester area. The business was founded by Peter Bratt and Joseph Hobson.

The business was incorporated as a limited company in 1906, Company No. 88871, and it was dissolved in 1924.

Later the shop was occupied by T Seymour Mead & Co Ltd, a grocer and tea dealer, who also had a chain of shops in the Manchester area.
