Denton & Haughton
Nelson Street & Edward Street

Nelson St, 1923.

Nelson St connects Hyde Rd and Annan St via the top of Lupton St. The building on right was formerly occupied by Thomas Milton, printer, engraver and stationer. The houses in the background, centre right, are on Annan St and they belong to the Howe family whose hat works is between Annan St and Amelia St.

In the 1930s the Oldham Battery Company closed off Nelson St and demolished the buildings on the left to replace them with an office block.

Edward St, 1924.

View looking towards Howard Ln from Hyde Rd.

The building in the background on the right is a hat works (Taylor Brothers), which is accessed from Hyde Rd via Taylor St. The property on the left is undergoing demolition and on the same side there was a coalyard once occupied by Ernest Wilde. The building on the right is a greengrocer's corner shop (Robert Eaton by 1911 and Joseph Broome by 1914).

John Eaton was born at Denton in 1877 to John Eaton (aka Heaton) and Mary Ann Fidler who were married at St Mark’s Church, Bredbury, in 1863.
