Haughton Terrace was built by James Walton, the second owner of Haughton Dale Mill (the Wireworks).

Part of Ivy Cottages is on the right and Haughton Dale House (originally two houses) is on the left. The cottages were provided for workers at Haughton Dale Mill, which is behind the viewpoint, and the other Ivy Cottages are off the picture to the right. George Sidebotham, co-founder of Haughton Dale Mill with his brother, Henry, lived at Haughton Dale House.
