Heritage objects are incredibly varied and they can include archaeological material, everyday objects, decorative art, and fine art. They are an invaluable resource which enables us to learn more about the people of the past.

Wax seal

This seal was delivered to someone in Denton in 1715.

It is just possible make out the words, 'POUR VOUS' (for you).

The flask is marked:

Squire Duckworth was the landlord of the Nottingham Castle on Stockport Rd during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Coronation commemoration badge

This badge was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council on the occasion of the coronation of Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark in 1902.

The obverse states that the coronation was in Jun 1902 but it was actually held on the 9 Aug 1902 due to the king's illness with appendicitis.

This badge was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council on the occasion of the coronation of George V and Mary of Teck on the 22 Jun 1911.

Coronation souvenir chocolate box

This box was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council to mark the occasion of the coronation of George V and Mary of Teck.

It was introduced by J S Fry & Sons of Bristol, chocolate and cocoa manufacturers.

Coronation souvenir porcelain crested ware

This beaker was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council on the occasion of the coronation of George V and Mary of Teck.

It wss made by W H Goss of Stoke-on-Trent.

Porcelain crested ware

Willow crested ware model of a vase.

It was made by Hewitt and Leadbeater of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, and marketed as Willow Art China. Later, this company became Hewitt Brothers and then Willow Potteries Ltd.

Commemorative plate

Haughton Green Equitable Co-operative Society Ltd plate, 1875-1925, Golden Jubilee plate.

This bone china plate was manufactured by the Windsor Pottery on Edensor Rd, Longton, Staffordshire. This pottery produced bone china and it was originally owned by Hill & Co that was established in 1898. From 1911 it was owned and operated by the Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd (CWS) and it was still active in the 1950s. The CWS also operated the Crown Clarence Pottery at Longton.

Past Chairman's Medal

A medal presented to Past Chairmen of Denton Urban District Council after their term of office.

Masonic medal

A Masonic medal from Denton Lodge in 1931 with the Denton crest.

Silver key

This key was presented to Mrs Elizabeth Hewitt Jalland on the occasion of the opening of Thornley Park, Denton, on the 4 May 1935. It was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council and made by the silversmiths, Thomas Fattorini Ltd.

Commemorative coronation medallion

This medallion was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council to commemorate the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on the 12 May 1937. It was made by Thomas Fattorini Ltd.

This badge was commissioned by Denton Urban District Council to commemorate the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. It was made by Thomas Fattorini Ltd.

Special Constabulary Long Service Medal

This medal was awarded to a Denton Special Constable.

It was awarded to members of the Special Constabulary for nine years service with more than 50 duties performed each year. During World War II the period was three years, again with more than 50 duties performed each year.

Copper alloy cap

The lettering on the cap reads: DENTON LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH 1857. The shield in the centre is surmounted by a top hat with a beaver to the right and a wolf to the left. The aim of the Public Health Act of 1848 was to improve the sanitary conditions of towns and populous areas by placing the supply of water, sewerage, drainage, cleansing, paving and environmental health under a single local body. This act enabled a General Board of Health and Local Boards of Health to be established.

Commissioned by W P Stafford & Co Ltd, mineral water manufacturers, of Pearl St.

Sunday School badge

This badge was issued by Wilton Street Unitarian Chapel to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Sunday School (1876-1926). It depicts the sower from the parable of the sower of seed.

Trade Union badge

Badge of the Felt Hatters & Trimmers Unions whose offices were at Denton.

The badge was made by Thomas Fattorini Ltd.

Football Club badge

Badge of the Denton Town F.C. This football club was founded in 1920 by the Revd John Talbot Canton (30 Jun 1882-5 Mar 1955) who was the rector of Christ Church, Bradford, Manchester. Initially, the club was called Bradford Parish Church and then Bradford Parish but in 1994 it was renamed Denton Town.

It was preceded by Denton F.C., nicknamed ‘the Hatters’, which was founded in c.1880 and dissolved in 1915. This club played on the football ground behind the Chapel House Hotel on Stockport Rd, which had a stand on the south side.

A golf ball marker from Denton Golf Club on Manchester Rd.

Coronation commemorative medallion

This bronze medallion was struck by the Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of Elizabeth II on the 2 Jun 1953. It has a diameter of 32mm and the designer was G H De Paulin.

The obverse shows a portrait of Elizabeth and the reverse shows the Royal Barge used in earlier days to take the Royal Crown from the Tower of London to Westminster.
