Laburnum Rd was constructed along the line of the Anglo-Saxon Nico Ditch.

This small park is situated on the south side of Manchester Rd in the angle formed by Balmoral Drive and Laburnum Rd at the point where they both join Manchester Rd.

It was opened on Saturday, 4 May 1935 by Mrs Elizabeth Hewitt Jalland née Wainwright. Her husband was Arthur Edgar Jalland LLB who was a Justice of the Peace, Queen’s Counsel, judge and politician. The couple married at Chorlton-on-Medlock in 1914 and during the Great War he was a lieutenant in the army.
